OVERALL AIM
The overall aim of this Training Course is to help the participating Officers to better organize, coordinate and execute shipboard drills, with the aim, to further increase the operational readiness of their vessels.
By providing guidance on the steps required to be taken during the conduct of statutory drills, such as, ship abandon, fire, entry and rescue from an enclosed space, flooding and operational oil spills, the Officers in Charge, are expected to further enhance their knowledge on how to conduct a drill in a safe manner and with learning value for the crew members.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Trainees, on completing the course, will be able to:
- Understand the importance of Muster List and the Emergency Instructions in the assignment of duties to all crew members for different emergencies.
- Coordinate and effectively participate in an onboard drill. Actions to be undertaken during a drill, from activating an alarm, up to the recovery of the life boat, the fire extinguishment, or the rescue of a crew member from an enclosed space will be learned.
- Become familiar with the company’s emergency procedures as detailed in the Emergency Preparedness and Training Manual (EPTM).

It must be noted that this Training Course will be extended in 2 days to include practical and hands-on training on personal life-saving appliances, fire fighters’ outfits and other equipment, when the Tanker Safety Laboratory of the ATHINA Training Center will be available.
