AIM
The overall aim is to further improve the knowledge and skills of Masters and Deck Officers employed on bulk carriers to understand the dangers that may occur in the process of loading, carriage at sea and discharging of solid bulk cargoes and help them to successfully plan, conduct and monitor cargo operations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The trainees, on completing the course, will be able:
- to assess the acceptability of consignments for safe shipment, especially Group A cargoes,
- to identify risks associated with the carriage of solid bulk cargoes and implement measures relating to the preparation of cargo holds, the stability of the vessel, the monitoring of cargo holds’ atmosphere and the management of residues or cargo hold washing water,
- to observe safe working practices in the loading and carriage of solid bulk cargoes, and,
- to supervise the operations of certain cargoes in compliance with the requirements of the IMSBC Code.
